Christie chief executive chosen as Patron for national business women’s organisation

Christie chief executive chosen as Patron for national business women’s organisationThe chief executive at The Christie, Caroline Shaw, has been chosen as Patron for a national organisation that offers a professional and social forum for business women across the UK.

Established in 1981, other high profile Patrons for ‘Network National’ include BBC Radio 4 presenter Sue MacGregor, PR guru Lynn Franks and Baroness Crawley.  Since the network was launched, it has built up a thriving national membership with eight regional branches across the UK.  Monthly meetings, workshops, discussion groups and seminars all support the network’s key aim of encouraging women to advance their professional careers.

Caroline Shaw, who has won awards for her meteoric career rise from midwife to chief executive, was selected to be Patron after delivering a keynote speech to businesswomen from across the region at their annual dinner.

Chair of the north west branch of Network National, Elaine Simons, said; “Caroline Shaw is an inspirational figure and we are thrilled that she has accepted our invitation to become our national patron.”

With a responsibility for 40,000 patients a year at the leading cancer centre, 2,500 staff and an annual budget of ÂŁ163 million, Caroline Shaw continues to be recognised for her strong business approach.  Under her leadership at The Christie, she has transformed the organisation into a performance-driven and high-achieving business - implementing an ambitious five-year strategy which breaks new ground and is set to transform treatment and care for cancer patients.

Caroline was also applauded this year for securing the return of the Christie charity’s  ÂŁ6.5 million following a bold and high-profile campaign.  The money had been lost in the global banking collapse and Prime Minister Gordon Brown personally rang Caroline to congratulate her on the successful campaign.

Her awards include the ‘North West Inspiring Woman of the Year’ in 2007 and she is one of only two hospital chief executives listed in the Crain’s ‘Who’s Who’ Business List for Manchester.

Caroline Shaw said; “I’m honoured that the Network National has chosen me as a Patron and hope that my experiences will help other women in business.  I’ve been inspired by some amazing women along the way and

I feel passionate about women being able to fulfil their potential in the workplace.  As a mother of two children I believe working women can find a balance in their lives that works for them and succeed both professionally and personally”.
